This nostalgic musical journey will be performed by The Houston Symphony. They are an American orchestra hailing from Houston, Texas, and are residing at the Jesse H. Jones for the Performing Arts. Their more than 100 years of success are attributed to their founder, Miss Ima Hogg, who guided the symphony to what it is now. The Houston Symphony has won numerous awards and continues to be an integral part of Houston’s cultural and civic life.

The orchestra is a full-time ensemble of professional musicians. They present about 170 concerts every year and have offered more than 1000 community-based performances at various schools, community centers, hospitals, and churches. Their prolific work has reached at least 200,000 people in Greater Houston.

Besides classical pieces, they are also known for their live performance accompanied by full movies projected on the big screen. Some of their famous performances of films with live orchestra featured Bugs Bunny, Harry Potter, Home Alone, Wizard of Oz, and The Matrix.

On June 1, 2023, at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, the orchestra will feature the film, Toy Story. It’s a beloved computer-animated comedy film from 1995 that narrates raw, open emotions while tapping into the old fantasy of our toys coming back to life. The film features original songs composed by Randy Newman. The director, Lassseter, said that Newman’s songs are touching, witty, and satirical. It perfectly embodies the emotional underpinning of each scene.
